Report tax fraud or avoidance to HMRC (2024)

Report a person or business you think is not paying enough tax or is committing another type of fraud against HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

This includes:

• tax avoidance or evasion
• Child Benefit or tax credit fraud
• hiding or moving assets, cash, or crypto
• illicit alcohol, tobacco, and road fuel
• smuggling of precious metals

Reporting other types of fraud or crime

There’s a different way to report:

• benefit fraud (excluding Child Benefit and tax credit fraud)
• crime or antisocial behaviour
• immigration or border crime
• other types of fraud, such as identity theft (to Action Fraud)
• suspicious HMRC emails, text messages and phone calls
• threats to national security

If you’re in danger or it’s an emergency, dial 999 and ask for the police.

How to make a report

Fill in the online form to tell HMRC what you know about the person or business.

It helps if you share your name, location and contact details. HMRC can then contact you if they need more information.

You do not have to give your personal details. Any information you do give will be kept private and confidential.

Do not send supporting information. You can tell HMRC if you have any when you make your report. If you’ve given your contact details, they’ll ask for more information if they need it.

For your own safety, you should not try to find out more or let anyone know you’re making a report.
