Note: The Praxis 5161 was recently replaced by the 5165 exam. We do not currently offer prep for the new exam but hope to have a program available in 2024. Our 5161 program covers the same domains as 5165, as well as Discrete Mathematics, which is not included in the new exam. There are some differences to content within the domains; however, the 5161 program may still assist students preparing for Praxis 5165.

Praxis Mathematics Overview

The Praxis Mathematics: Content Knowledge (5161) exam is a test required by many states for credential candidates planning to teach mathematics at the high school level. It is a single, computer-delivered test that includes questions from two content categories.

The first content category includes Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions and Calculus. The second content category includes Geometry, Probability and Statistics, and Discrete Mathematics.

The test consists of various question types including selected-response, numeric entry, drag-and-drop and text completion. An on-screen graphing calculator is provided.
